Casual Employment
The Community Development Officer leads in the development of participation and of players and coaches at domestic and entry level at Coburg Basketball Association. The CDO will act as the main point of contact for all community level development programs and for coach development for CBA member domestic clubs. The CDO will work closely with the Junior Domestic delegates, the Competition Administrator and the Vice President.

Primary responsibilities: 

Aussie Hoops

  • Coordination & running of Aussie Hoops program or equivalent, including kindergarten and school aged

  • Help drive the growth of the program with promotion
  • Seek out opportunities for new school & kinder-based Aussie Hoops programs
  • Ensure all sessions are staffed with qualified coaches
  • Facilitate the education, development and mentoring of Aussie Hoops coaches
  • Recruit and develop new Aussie Hoops coaches
  • Implement Basketball Australia’s Aussie Hoops coaching curriculum and coaching guidelines
  • Lead Aussie Hoops sessions on court as required
  • End of Term accreditation
  • Discussion with parents of pathways into domestic competition


  • Assist in building relationships between CBA, local schools & kindergartens and facilitating programs
  • Develop a school information package
  • Promote and grow the CBA Sporting Schools Program
  • Promote and grow opportunities for “Excite Sessions” and other school-based clinics
  • Ensure all sessions are staffed with qualified coaches
  • Facilitate the education, development and mentoring of casual development coaches
  • Recruit and develop new school program coaches
  • Act as Lead Coach and consult with VP in school clinics and programs where appropriate


  • Assist the implementation of all domestic coaching support provided to member clubs
  • Coordinate all domestic coaching support bookings with domestic clubs
  • Development of content for domestic coach education and resource sharing
  • Delivery of domestic coach education clinics


  • Develop new basketball programs in the grass roots and domestic space (eg. Drills and Skills, Domestic holiday clinics, Tiny Tots program, Walking Bball, Next Gen Girls)
  • Assist in the administration of existing and new basketball programs
  • Other appropriate duties or tasks as assigned by the CBA Board
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide coach development support to domestic clubs.

  • Oversee, run and develop coaches in Aussie Hoops Program.
  • Oversee Domestic level development programs – Domestic Drills and Skills.
  • Domestic Coach Development-Mentoring, games, trainings
  • Domestic Coach education sessions via Zoom.
  • Oversee Sporting Schools Program and grow number of programs every year.
  • Oversee Domestic level Holiday programs.
  • Establish and run Domestic Coach academy
  • Promote and run walking basketball program
Performance Measures
  • All KPI’s achieved as per attached
  • Monthly Board report
  • Number of School Clinics
  • Conversion of Aussie Hoops, Grass Roots and school programs to CBA domestic competition
Desired Capabilities/Competencies
  • VJBL Level 2 Coaching preferably – or willing to work towards it
  • Working with Children Check
  • Willingness to work weekends and evenings as required
  • Motor Vehicle Driver’s license
  • Knowledge of the sport industry within Australia and familiarity with the domestic sporting landscape
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Australia
  • Experience working in a member-based organisation
