Junior Development Officer
Position Title | Junior Development Officer |
PURPOSE | To oversee the delivery of Coburg GIANTS Basketball development programs, including providing support to all CGB athletes and coaches. |
REPORTS TO | Director of Coaching (DOC) |
WORKING HOURS | Casual Employment: paid per hour for hours worked during school term Expected minimum of/ up to 10 hours per week across the season as authorised by the DOC. Seasonal contract to be signed September annually. The role includes some local travel, as well as evening and weekend work.

Key Responsibilities
- Implement Coburg GIANTS Basketball (CGB) playing style and One Coburg GIANTS philosophy to CGB-VJBL teams.
- Assist the DOC to develop and strengthen CGB pathways and offerings for players and coaches.
- Assist DOC at CGB games and training as directed by the DOC.
- Provide a point of contact for CGB players and parents as required.
- Seek out potential coaching staff for CGB recruitment and encourage and support them undertaking training and accreditation.
- Assist the DOC to foster the growth and raise the coaching standards of coaching staff within the CGB program.
- Under the direction of the DOC coordinate program curriculum of CBA player development programs (including school and term programs designed for beginner, intermediate and skilled, domestic and CGB players) to be in line with CGB success criteria.
- Support junior representative program players and coaches.
- Assist with the coordination of coaches for or participate as a coach for CBA School Holiday Programs and CBA run Tournaments (particularly where CGB teams have entered).
- Assist DOC with on court activities in CGB trials.
Key Performance Indicators
- Evidence of the One Coburq GIANTS Philosophy beinq in place / activities demonstrate pathways being accessed.
- Attendance of at least 2 different CGB games and at least 2 different CGB training sessions weekly as directed by DOC.
- Improved quality and qualifications of/ for CGB coaching staff.
- Increased participation (for both coaches and players) in CBA School Term Programs.
- Positive reviews and feedback from CGB players and coaches.
- Increased participation (for both coaches and players) in CBA School Holiday Programs.
- Increased participation and successful outcomes from CGB trials.
Qualifications & Required Skills
- Basketball Victoria (BV) Coachina Accreditation Level: Club or Association 3+ years' experience in an association/club coaching environment.
- Senior squad or senior player development coaching experience highly desirable.
- Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships with the diverse members of the CBA Basketball community.
- Good organisation skills and self-motivated.
- Able to be responsive and flexible in an environment with time pressures and multiple priorities.
- Seeks continuous improvement maintaining a positive attitude to change.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Accepts responsibility.
- Ability to represent the sport of Basketball in a professional and respectable manner.

- Developed written and verbal communication skills . Attention to detail

Weekly Duties
- Attend and assist on court with Sunday CGB squad training days (4hrs)
- Attend x 2 CGB-VJBL different representative side training per week (2hrs)
- Attend x 2 Friday night CGB-VJBL fixture per week (2hrs)
- Communication via email, phone calls, program development (2hr)

Referee Development Manager

PURPOSE | Recruit, development & Retention of Referee Program |
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitation of beginner Referee training courses.
- Presentation Delivery of referee upskilling courses.
- Manage and upskill Referee Supervisors.
- Provide direct and indirect supervision, mentorship, and leadership to all Referees.
- Attend lectures, camps and courses/workshops conducted by Basketball Victoria etc. on rule changes, interpretations, mechanics, and education.
- Disseminate information to all referees and management regarding rules, rule changes, interpretations, and mechanics of basketball refereeing.
- Identify and motivate referees with potential to be selected on Basketball Victoria elite leagues for education courses/lectures.
- Maintain and update records and grading’s of Referees & Referee Coaches
- Liaise with Basketball Victoria TOC to ensure preferred practice is in place.
- Be the Basketball Victoria contact point for state level referee pathway opportunities.
- Increase Referee Numbers with recruitment and, use upskilling & to improve retention.
- Review of Referee supervisors/supervisor program whilst providing ongoing support and mentoring to all current referee supervisors.
- Review of the supervisor position description and expectations.
- Review of all active referees and re-evaluate their current grading levels.
- Re-introduce Ref coaching on a regular basis.
- Introduce Referee development sessions based on data from supervisor session reports.
- Create an action plan including a layout for proposed referee development.

- All KPI’s achieved as per above
Desirable Skills
- Hold Basketball Victoria’s Association Program Development Officer accreditation.
- Grade 2 (Post 2022) or Grade 3 (Pre 2022) Referee Coach Accreditation
- Cert IV in training and assessment
- Adhere to Basketball Victoria’s TOC Charter, By Laws, Member Protection, Tribunal and Child Safety
Weekly Duties
- Attend mid-week senior domestic games (8 -10 hours Mon-Thurs.)
- Attend Friday VJBL games (2-3 hours)
- Attend Saturday junior domestic games (7 hours)
- Communication via email, phone calls, program development( 5 hours )
