Junior Giants Tryouts

Coburg Giants VJBL representative program runs tryouts in early October, a month before VJBL Grading Phase.

Player/Team selection process runs for two to three weeks and is open to all our domestic players wanting to a further pathway for their basketball needs.

The tryout sessions are run by the CBA Coaching Coordinators and their appointed coaching staff.

Sessions are  broken down to age groups, to allow coaches to observe and  evaluate all players performances during set drills.

Sessions run for 1.5 hours across 4 courts at Coburg  Basketball Stadium.

After the last  tryout session,  players will be allocated to teams and notified of their selection via email.

One of the most frequently asked questions is around “Age” groupings

Junior Representative Basketball Age Groups for the 2025 season are:

  • Players are under 12 if born in 2014, 2015 and 2016
  • Players are under 14 if born in 2012 and 2013
  • Players are under 16 if born in 2010 and 2011
  • Players are under 18 if born in 2008 and 2009
  • Players are under 20 if born in 2006 and 2007

  1. All players must register to playHq link before taking the court
  2. In order to be considered, all players must attend both sessions.
  3. All sessions will be held at Coburg Basketball Stadium
  4. Under 21 team selection process is a closed session for home grown Coburg players
  5. If you are new to Coburg, you will need permission to train from your Basketball Association

  • Please arrive 30 minutes early to get your tryout number
  • Players are to bring;
    • A reversible singlet (NO REP GEAR)
    • A Basketball and drink bottle
  • No parents or guardians are to be in the venue once tryout has begun
  • Please notify CBA board members and coaches of any medical conditions and provide all medication required in a labelled bag with name on it.
  • All tryouts will be at Coburg Basketball Stadium
  • Players from other clubs MUST have a permission to train prior to the tryout
